Description

Leffe is a town in the province of Bergamo, set on the western side of the Val Gandino, famous since the Middle Ages for the textile production.
Interesting fossils have been founded during the XX century in the lignite mines, now preserved at the Museums of Natural Science in Milan and Bergamo.
It is mentioned for the first time in a document of 903 with the name of Leufo.
It conserves remarkable items of historic-artistic value, like Palazzo Comunale, with a portico and open gallery, together with a beautiful internal courtyard and well. The Parish House is also a significant structure, with open gallery and music room, frescoed by E. Baschenis, a painter from Bergamo of the XVII century. The Parish Church of San Michele (XVI century) is also well worth a visit, conservinga wooden sculptural group by Andrea Fantoni, dating from 1694, called "la Madonnina".
Finally we definitely recommend healthy walks through the mountain paths, in strict contact with nature, including excursions in the Valle Rossa (Red Valley), so-called for the presence of red clays.
