Fai della Paganella

Description

Located on a sunny highland plain at the slopes of the Paganella with a panoramic view of the Valle dell'Adige, Fai della Paganella is a quaint little town in the province of Trento, the ideal destination for those who seek a holiday that combines sports, relaxation and sunshine. It is also an excellent starting point for several pleasant hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding excursions among the lush of the meadows and cool of the forests of the plateau, where the fresh air and direct contact with nature makes you forget the stress and frenetic pace of modern life.
The ski lifts, that work all year round in order to reach the shelters, depart from the village and lead up to the Paganella Peak (2125 meters) and are linked to those of Andalo. Worthy of special mention deserve the fitness and exercise classes, which are held each Summer at the sports center and are personally managed by the great Olympic gymnastic champion Yuri Chechi.
Mentioned for the first time in an official document of 1147, during the XIV and XV centuries the town was granted to the Principality and Bishopric of Trent, in part, was assigned and governed by the family of Spaur, that in 1620, had built the Palace of Fai. When the last heir of the Spaur family died in 1800, the palace was ceded to the noble Family of Welsperg and later to the heirs of the Baron Eugene de Unterrichter.
Sites of Interest:
- the archeological excavations near Doss Castle, which have brought to light the remains of ancient settlements dating from the Bronze Age to the late Neolithic period and to the Rhaetian ages.
- the Church of San Rocco, built to replace the existing church of San Biagio and inaugurated in 1867, it is flanked by the small chapel with a "radish" shaped bell Tower, previously covered in tin and now in copper, which recalls the style of the Habsburg churches of the Inn Valley;
- the Parish Church of St. Nicholas;
- the Palace of Fai, built in 1620 by the Counts of Spaur as their Summer residence.
