Battipaglia is the youngest and one of the most populous town of the Sele Plains. Founded as an agricultural colony, it became a village in 1929; it was totally re-built after the bombings of the Second World War. The castle, known as "Castelluccia", overlooks the town and was mentioned for the first time in a XI century document. Battipaglia is also rich in archaeological heritages and ancient palaces.It is famous for the production of the exquisite buffalo mozzarella: there are many dairy farms in the area: in some it is possible to watch them and then enjoy the fresh results.
