Atena Lucana, in the province of Salerno, is the oldest community in Vallo di Diano. It is located on its western side, above a pass that leads to Val d'Agri. In the past it was an important crossroads for exchanges and trade between the two valleys. This is confirmed by the numerous finds of furnishings and ceramics dating back to the VII century B.C. Many finds are collected in the Antiquarium. Today, you can still see the tracks and the ruins of ancient, walled forts that used to surround living quarters, constructed in the IV century B.C.
