Aci Catena is located on the Eastern coast of Sicily; its name derives from the deep devotion of its inhabitants to Our Lady of the Catena, venerated in the XVIII century Chiesa Madre. In the past the town was also known with the name of "Contrada degli Scarpi" (the shoe district), due to the high number of shoemakers living there.
The towns information is available as of the Greek-Roman era, testified by many archeological remains found in the archaeologic area of Santa Venera al Pozzo.
in addition to the Chiesa Madre (Mother Church), the church of San Filippo D'Agira, the Church of San Giuseppe, the Church of Sant'Antonio di Padova, the Church in the Hermitage of Sant'Anna and the Palazzo Riggio di Campofiorito worth a visit.
