INTERNATIONAL SHORT AND DEBUT WORK FILM FESTIVAL
TENTH EDITION

Trieste - Italy , 26 June - 4 July 2009

INTRODUCTION

Maremetraggio - International Short and debut works Film Festival is an annual project of the Maremetraggio Association, arrived this year at its 10th edition, that will take place in 2009 from June 26 to July 4.
Maremetraggio also this year will continue its tireless activity offering to its audience high quality works with a unique pan-European coverage (also through its CEI dedicated section) promoting countries of low capacity production, young professionals and inter-cultural dialogue.
Core of the event are the four screening sections that follow:
1) Maremetraggio Section, dedicated to shorts that, in the previous year, have won the most important European Festivals. The event will see many national and non-national European short films compete for the final prize of € 10.000,00;
2) Ippocampo Section, dedicated to debut feature films by Italian directors;
3) Corallino Section, dedicated to the best Italian short film by Italian primary, junior high and high schools, and from this year also open to Greek secondary schools.
4) CEI Section, a special competition for short films and directors from countries belonging to the Central European Initiative. This in order to offer an overview of the Central Europe cinema as well as to enhance the eastern European production and promote works from EU candidate (Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia), western Balkans (Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia) and NIS countries ( Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus).
In 2009, for its tenth edition, Maremetraggio is planning to increase once again the total number of films to be put on screen.
Maremetraggio will continue promoting its initiatives such as the "Maremetraggio Village" (free entrance) with meetings, press conferences and special projections. The possibility for the public to interact with directors, distributors and actors makes Maremetraggio a very attractive event.
Special attention has always focused on training activities, bringing together more and more young visitors over the years.
Maremetraggio offers free entrance. During our last edition we counted a daily attendance of around 1.500 people and a total festival audience of 13.000. Finally, the Festival is a unique opportunity for whoever likes cinema, audiovisual expression and new forms of communication.

ALBA ROHRWACHER AT MAREMETRAGGIO FILM FESTIVAL

For its tenth edition, Maremetraggio - International Short and debut works Film Festival - that will be held in Trieste from June 26th to July 4th will dedicate a special perspective to the young emerging actress Alba Rohrwacher.
With five films out in 2008 alone, Alba has become a household name among Italian audiences. Moreover, she has been selected among the ten "shooting stars" of 2009, the annual new talent forum at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).
This summer, in Trieste, Alba will be the special guest of the festival Maremetraggio, that will screen a selection of four of her movies and four of her short films. The public of the festival will have the unique opportunity to know directly from her voice Alba's professional history and expectation for the future.
