Viareggio (LU) - EuropaCinema

European Film Festival

April 15, 2008 - April 19, 2008

Viareggio

Since 2007, EuropaCinema festival - which will be celebrating its 25th edition in 2008 - has changed its formula: from now on, each festival edition will be entirely dedicated to a single European country. This new formula has been highly appreciated from both audience and professionals during the last edition of the festival which was focused on Spanish cinematography.
Germany will play the lead role in EuropaCinema 2008 with its films and its well-known as well as new talented authors who will be hosted in Viareggio from Tuesday April 15th to Saturday April 19th. This is to reconfirm and strengthen an old tradition which has always seen Germany at the forefront within the EuropaCinema programs, since its foundation (1984).
During the festival 10 German films of recent production, never distributed in Italy, will be screened in the presence of their directors and main actors. 10 short films, of the maximum length of 15 minutes, will be presented before each long feature film.
A retrospective section will be also hosted within EuropaCinema 2008. 15 films belonging to the "historical" German Cinema will be scheduled within the festival program. Special attention will be given to the most representative films grown out of the Oberhausen Manifesto (1962) which very much contributed to the establishment of an new German cinematography and to the renaissance of the "New German Cinema".
