"THE ENIGMA OF THE MEDIEVAL IVORIES FROM AMALFI TO SALERNO", Salerno, Diocesan Museum 20 December 2007 - 30 April 2008
An exhibition and two itinerariesfocused on the discovery of a Medieval city reconstructing an historical period in which such as Amalfi and Salerno had a leading role in outlining the European Cultural Artistic picture.
The exhibition, directed by Ferdinando Bologna, intends to reconstruct an important period of Medieval European Art at the peak of its maturity: with a particular focus in sculpture in ivory from XI century to the first half of XII century, in Italian regions around the west part of the Mediterranean. A period of Medieval art that had privileged residence, first of all the Duchy of Amalfi, therefore the city of Salerno in which its ascent, due to roberto Guiscardo advent, turned into a crestive centre and politically and culturally referral point of the vaste Norman dominion.
