From the 20th of June till the 30th of Agust is held in Pietrasanta the exhibition "The animals countdown" by Stefano Bombardieri: whales, rhinoceros, elephants, hippos, portrayed at natural size in surreal contexts.
Thanks to the use of extremely ductile materials as the glass-reinforced plastic, Bombardieri's sculptures look realistic and stimulate the visitors to reason about subjects that are all but joyful. The animals, monumental and powerful, become testimonial of their extinction.
In the Church of Sant'Agostino every animal has a led electronic counter that in real time reports the number of still existing animals.
In piazza Duomo a more than 6 metres tall metal portal, with three fin whales with a big wound on their back hanging from it, is the entrance of the exhibition.
In the halls Putti and Capitolo of the Cloister of Sant'Agostino, are on show drawings, drafts, models and small and medium size bronze sculptures realized by Bombardieri in the workshops of the town.
Stefano Bombardier was born in Brescia on the 28th of January 1968. In his father's sculpture studio he got a profound knowledge about materials. From the Nineties he mainly realized big size woks for public and private spaces. He works in Italy, France and Germany.
In2007 he took part to the 52nd Biennale of Venice, guest of the Pavillion of the Syrian Arab Republic with the work "Europa pallida madre" (Pale mother Europe).
